Greece has a number of popular areas for mountain and rock climbing.
Having spent many summers on the Dodecanese island of Kalymnos, I always wondered
why it had not been promoted as an ideal destination for rock climbing. To me,
the rugged mountainous terrain looked perfect for such a pursuit. Then
voilà!
On a recent trip, I was given a copy of a superb guide for rock climbing on
the island. So, I had been right, after all!
It is produced on nice glossy paper with colour illustrations. It is 80 pages
long in A5 format. The colour illustrations are accompanied by detailed descriptions
of each of the climbing sectors.
Written by Aris Theodoropoulos, and published in collaboration with the Kalymnos Municipality, it is a comprehensive, and long-overdue guide.

A good time for climbing is in April/early May as well as October when it is cooler. Also many of the tourists have gone and accommodation is more readily available for climbing parties.
Agelika Apartments in Myrties is ideally situated for climbing parties. They cater especially for climbers, being mindful of special requirements such as catering. The hotel is run by the very popular Babis, and his charming Australian-born wife, Diana.
